Strange! Jobs for militants, nothing for unemployed Jammu youth
10/3/2020 11:34:19 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 3: The recent announcement of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Kumar Sinha, offering government jobs to militants in Kashmir, has not gone well with the peaceful unemployed youth in Jammu region.
These youth are of the opinion that they have been “abandoned” by the administration as no new government jobs as well as new avenues of development are opening up for them.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday while launching the third phase of the Back to Village campaign in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, made an appeal to militants to shun the path of violence and extremism and offered them government jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Sinha reportedly said, “Few misguided youth have abandoned the path of success and dignified life and have opted the path of violence and extremism. It would be better if they shun the path of violence and join the mainstream for a better future. I appeal a few misguided youth to shun violence and return to the mainstream for a dignified future. Government is ready to help them with jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities.”
But his statement has not gone well with the highly qualified youth of Jammu, who have been pursuing the peaceful life and have been contributing in the nation building. “Against the claims of providing 50,000 jobs to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the UT administration has so far offered few thousand government jobs,” said a youth.
He said, “When Article 370 was revoked the government had claimed that a new era of development would user in Jammu and Kashmir with influx of private investments and jobs but so far no such announcement has materialized. There are minimum government jobs and if the administration plans to provide government jobs to the militants, then it would ultimately snatch away the right of the peaceful youth.”
Another youth said, “Is the government trying to convey the highly qualified peaceful youth that it has no jobs for them but has jobs for those who have joined militancy?. It is giving an impression that administration has plans to offer government jobs to the militants but not the youth, which is very disturbing”,
“Those who have remained peaceful and contributed to the nation building have been abandoned by the government but it has been paying more attention to those, who have been fighting against the nation,” he added.
“Firstly the government should create employment opportunities for the peaceful youth of the Union Territory rather than showing urgency about the militants”, the youth said, adding that the silence of saffron party leaders on of LG’s statement is also intriguing.
