Mehbooba invokes Ambedkar but forgets Valmikis, WPRs
11/9/2020 11:58:07 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 9: During her first press conference in Jammu after release from detention, PDP president and former chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti sought to invoke Dr B R Ambedkar to reach out to weaker sections of Jammu province. In her press conference she repeatedly mentioned the name of Dr Ambedkar to claim that BJP has violated provisions of the Constitution drafted by Dr Ambedkar.
But Mehbooba Mufti failed to mention even a single word for Maha Dalits like Valmikis and West Pakistani Refugees-majority of them are OBCs and Dalits. These two communities were the worst victims of Article 35-A.
Although Mehbooba sought to reach to weaker sections, she forgets that the majority of the victims of the Article 35-A -were Dalits and OBCs. Whenever any attempt was made to restore back human rights to these Dalits, Kashmir centric parties be it PDP or NC opposed such move. The Maha Dalits like Valmikis were facing the worst ever slavery in J&K as their highly qualified children were eligible only for the post of sweeper before abrogation of Article 370.
Same was the story of West Pakistani Refugees. Earlier they were given certificates on the basis of which they were eligible to apply for jobs in the central government but due to pressure from Hurriyat Conference, Kashmir centric parties stopped issuing the same certificate to them thus making them slaves.
Today Mehbooba Mufti said the BJP government had violated the constitution drafted by Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar. She mentioned that Baba Sahib had drafted the constitution on the basis of justice and fairness but the BJP did not abide by it. The sole purpose of the removal was to snatch away the rights and employment opportunities of the people here.
