SKUAST Kashmir coterie calling the shots to hide corruption!
11/10/2020 12:00:56 AM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 9: Even as the Raj Bhawan relieved the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the SK University of Science and Technology Kashmir promptly before he would make any last moment decisions at the varsity ahead of his retirement, a “coterie of officials” at the SKUAST has been unwilling to revoke the controversial transfers that were done to “muzzle the voices seeking transparency.”
In the wake of mounting complaints of corruption and favoritism at the SKUAST Kashmir here that were affecting academic activities and research, the scientists at the varsity had been demanding transparency in the system.
The body of the scientists was also demanding that the decisions taken at the annual meets in the last five-six years be made public as there were complaints of numerous irregularities in the same.
The complaints of favoritism whereby “favorites were holding multiple charges and no rotation of charge was taking place had also been pouring in.”
The SKUAST scientists had put forth a list of such demands before the varsity seeking action.
But sources said instead of appreciating the demand for transparency that would boost up academic and scientific activities, the reputed scientists were transferred “as a mark of revenge.”
“The transfers have been so illogical that some of the scientists were transferred out of the UT,” said a source.
Sources said a coterie of at least two officials along with the VC who was relieved of the charge were allegedly calling the shots.
Sources said one of these officials is already under scanner for multi-crore financial irregularities while the other one is accused of illegally bending norms to benefit his kids from the varsity.
Sources said as the transfer of the scientists had snowballed into controversy, the Raj Bhawan decided not to give any extension to the outgoing VC and that the powers vested in him were seized.
Sources said the varsity was also directed to revoke the controversial transfer orders.
But till now the transfer orders have not be revoked.
Sources said atleast two of the tainted officials are sabotaging the process lest their alleged frauds get exposed and they land in trouble.
When contacted a senior official at the SKUAST confirmed that the transfer orders have not been revoked.
“Some of the senior officials are not willing to revoke the orders as they apprehend that it will expose the muck,” he said on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile a delegation of retired scientists appealed the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter to safeguard the varsity the get the transfer orders revoked.
