KVK Rajouri holds Scientific Advisory Committee meeting

RAJOURI, Dec 30: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Rajouri, under the aegis of Sher e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, (SKUAST) Jammu, today organised the twelfth meeting of Scientific Advisory Committee and a Rabi Kissan Mela for the farmers of the district.
The meeting and Kisan Mela were organised in the premises of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in which Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Prof. J P Sharma was chief guest, while Director Extension, Dr. SK Gupta was guest of honour.
The meeting of Scientific Advisory Committee for Rajouri district was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer Rajouri, Mahesh Verma; District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. JK Gupta; DDM NABARD Kanav Sharma; Area Marketing Officer Horticulture P&M, Arvind Panjgotra; Assistant Director Fisheries, Munish Sharma and progressive farmers who are members of the Committee.
At the outset of meeting, Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Rajouri, Dr. Arvind Ishar, presented progress report of the institution and efforts in offing for development of farmers with main focus on doubling farmers income, through integrated farming system, organic farming and agricultural based skill development practices.
The officers of the participating departments also listed the efforts being made under various government sectors and schemes and suggested various activities to be taken up by KVK Rajouri in its action plan in times to come.
Director Extension, Dr. SK Gupta also discussed in detail the need of the hour in terms of betterment of farmers besides suggesting a number of steps which shall be taken up by KVKs across Jammu region.
Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu, Prof. JP Sharma, while hailing the efforts of KVK Rajouri said that KVKs are vital institutions, which have emerged as one stop destination for betterment of farmers.
He underlined the need for better marketing practices for local products in order to fetch remunerative prices for farmers produce and Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) are pre-requisite for it.
The Vice Chancellor also hailed the Government of India for introducing new farm bills, which will strengthen the agriculture sector and benefit farmers in terms of marketing of their produce as they are free to sell their produce in open market.
