Jammu, Dec 30: Unscheduled electricity outages and frequent tripping of transmission lines in the midst of the cold weather conditions, have made the lives of the various areas of Jammu region miserable.
Power cuts are taking a heavy toll on the people, especially in the outskirts of Jammu. The residents of various areas claim that the distribution system managed by the Power Development Department (PDD) has gone out of control, with no predictable pattern to the power cuts.
Apart from regular cuts, repeated spells of outages and fluctuations are aggravating the problems for the people.
Residents are now questioning the functioning of PDD for its failure to keep up the supply even in metered areas, where no particular schedule is being followed and electricity cuts have become a regular feature.
Local residents claim that Miran Sahab, Bhage-Bahu, , Bhatindi, Sojma, Channi, , Kachi Chawni, Janipur, Roop Nagar, lower Barnai and Bari-Brahman are the most affected areas.
“Nothing has changed for us despite the claims of successive governments that power infrastructure have been revamped,” Mohan lal, a local resident in Miran Sahab, said.
The PDD blames it on the excessive burden on some grid stations, caused by the unregistered load. “We are aware that the cold wave has gripped the Jammu region but people are using power as if there is no tomorrow. Overloaded grid stations forces us to cut the supplies,” one of the top officials of the PDD said, insisted not to be named.
