“It has been desired by the worthy Chief Secretary, J&K in the CoS meeting held on 8th July, 2019 that a list of postgraduate men and women in the state but not employed in the government be prepared and accordingly the Assistant Directors of Employment in the districts be directed to collect and compile the information and submitted to the Labour and Employment department by or before July, 22, 2019,” reads an order that is in possession of Early Times.
A group of unemployed youth told Early Times that, “Government has always shown the green meadows to the unemployed youth of J&K, if government is really serious about the future of unemployed youth, they must formulate an employment policy, otherwise they should not divert the youth be it an unemployed men or women from their tracks, adding most of the youth are doing their private business, or some have opened new small scale units to keep themselves busy.
“There are thousands of unemployed youth in the UTs of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, who have crossed the age limit and some are about to cross the age limit for entering into the government services. Our dreams have got shattered due to wrong decisions, plans and policies of the government”, said a group of youth from Kashmir.
One of the well qualified youth from Srinagar city said, “I have completed M.A in Sociology and English. I have been waiting for a job since 2009. I have crossed the age limit now, for God’s sake can anybody from the government tell me that who will look after my family, I have three children and all are studying in English Medium Schools.”
“On daily basis I do labour work and earn Rs 450-500 a day. I do some extra work for two to three hours daily, only then I can pay the tuition fee of my children but government hardly bothers for us, they are busy in showing green meadows to the budding youth, he added.
