Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Feb 1: The Panchayat representatives of this district are very upset since they have not been given the money in lieu of works carried out by them despite the fact that the money has been sanctioned under the 14th Finance Commission.
Sources told Early Times that the delay in payment is due to the reason that technical sanction has not been given for the works done in the district. These works are carried out by the Village Level Workers (VLWs) and Sarpanchs and these people are suffering while waiting for the payment.
“The technical sanction has to be given by the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Rajouri but he has not done it so far with the other officers also acting as mute spectators.
This is despite the fact that works have been carried out by people who are poor and live from hand to mouth,” said sources.
These works are basic in nature and include construction of wells, ponds and allied things in the different villages, wards and Panchayats of this district. The works are important for the people of these areas and they heave a sigh of relief as and when they get completed even though the payment is pending.
When contacted BDO Sunderbani Raman Sharma said that the issuance of technical sanction does not pertain to him and it has to be done by the higher ups.
ACD Rajouri Sushil Khajuria when contacted said that the same has to be given by the District Panchayat Officer.
The Panchayat representatives have appealed LG Manoj Sinha and DC Rajouri to intervene in the matter so that their payments are released after technical sanction.
