Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 1: Though educational institutions reopened today after a 10-month long break chaotic situation was witnessed at the Government Higher Secondary School Sohal Akhnoor in Jammu district where students were seen sitting in the sun in groups in open violation of guidelines.
Some pictures in possession of Early Times reveal that students are sitting close to each other and without wearing masks barring a few on the first day of reopening of schools in the JK UT in order to protect themselves from coronavirus.
It’s in place to mention here that the government had issued strict guidelines before reopening of schools wherein it was clearly mentioned to ensure compliance of the COVID-19 sops.
The locals of the village Sohal namely Sukhpal Singh, Amit Gupta, Kapil Sudan of Akhnoor expressed displeasure over the mismanagement of school administration for not ensuring COVID guidelines. They alleged that if any student gets infected from the COVID-19 then who would be responsible.
As per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs), sharing books, notebooks, pencils, pens and other items among students and teachers should be strictly prohibited while everyone in the school should maintain physical distance of at least two meters from each other. The students can sit almost two meters apart from each other and in case of non-availability of such space, staggered schedule/shift timings and student rotation can be an option.
It is clearly mentioned in the order that all students and teachers should wear masks while hand washing points with proper soap should be made available for all.
In case of absence of washing stations, hand sanitizers of standard prescribed by Government be used as hand rub for staff and older children. Disinfecting the learning space and surfaces should be a daily affair.
When Early Times contacted the incharge of School Dalbir Singh, he said that directed all the teachers to ensure implantation of SOPs of government and assured that he would inquire about the matter and will act accordingly.
