Disengagement Begins
2/12/2021 11:32:12 PM
Finally, it appears that the tension between India and China is coming to an end with both sides initiating disengagement of troops from the southern and northern sides of Pangong Lake in Eastern Ladakh on a mutual agreement basis.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Parliament that the country has not lost anything in the talks and some issues related to the deployment and patrolling in some areas on the Line of Actual Control were still pending and will be given special attention in further talks.
During the past one year tensions between India and China were simmering along the Line of Actual Control, but the Government of India remained firm on its stand and the Indian armed forces were fully prepared to take on the adversary. China made every possible attempt to build the pressure on India but couldn’t succeed as the Government of India (GoI) made it clear that not a single inch of land will be conceded and if war is imposed on the country it will be fought.
Besides exhibiting the military might, the GoI banned the Chinese products in India which led to China suffering immense financial losses.
The Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has driven home a point that India has changed and it’s ready to face any challenge. During the past one year the GoI has remained calm and there were no signs of panic or anxiety. The situation that emerged along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh has been handled professionally and in a matured manner.
China too seems to have realized that war is no solution and even if it chooses the option of war it will also suffer massive damages. The Chinese tried to push in their troops when the entire world, including India, was grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Indian armed forces held the ground and did not allow China to go ahead with its plan to expand its territories.
In April 2020 China had amassed troops in Eastern Ladakh and transgressed but they were given a befitting reply by Indian armed forces. Twenty soldiers laid down their lives in protecting the sovereignty of the country.
During the past one year India has been fighting with China on multiple fronts and it appears that our neighbor has understood that it’s not 1965, it’s 2021 and it’s not easy to match the skills of the Indian armed forces. China too seems to have realized that by entering into a confrontation it has lost a huge market.
