Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 20: Even as the government has launched a mega drive for immunization against Covid-19 of the government officials including those from the police department, most of the cops haven’t been showing any good physique, atleast in the pictures of the jab sessions.
While the police department has been releasing numerous pictures of the officials, and other policemen getting the Covid injection, as per health experts, most of them lack “good physique.” Some are believed to be “skinny and others bulky.” “Physical fitness of policemen in the form of muscle buildup needs to be inspiring.
They need to have good biceps, triceps and even six packs but while giving them the jab, a good physique was largely missing,” said a medical health expert on the condition of anonymity.
The health experts said the JKP must explore options for making gym mandatory for all the cops. “Our policemen need to be inspiration for good physique,” the health experts added.
The police departments elsewhere have been opting for fitness campaigns for the cops.
In 2018, in Bengaluru, the police department had launched a drive to keep eye on waist-line of its staffers.
To keep the force happy and healthy, the then Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of KSRP, Bhaskar Rao, had issued a circular to the staff asking them to keep fit. If they failed to fall in line, action was taken against them.
Circular issued in Bengaluru had asked the police department to that they should note down the weight and height of the police personnel working under them. Overweight or obese were listed separately, and asked to do physical activities to reduce weight. The police staff was also given healthy food.
It is pertinent to mention that the Modi government has been holding fitness challenges to keep India fit and fine.
Meanwhile, experts said that was a need that Jammu and Kashmir Police focus more on fitness. Talking to Early Times, a retired police official said fitness drills should be started in Jammu and Kashmir Police as a regular and mandatory feature for all ranks. “Our police force needs to be an inspiration for fitness,” he added.
