Chamba-Padri-Bhaderwah another route for bovine-smuggling
Sanatan Sabha president alleges involvement of police personnel
7/8/2021 12:39:59 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 7: The inter-state bovine smugglers are using Chamba-Padri-Bhaderwah route to carry out their nefarious activities, which got exposed on Wednesday morning, when two trucks carrying the bovines were seized by police following the intervention of civil society members of Bhaderwah town.
Sanatan Dharam Sabha Bhaderwah president Virender Razdan informed Early Times that on Wednesday early morning he got a phone call about the unloading of bovines from two trucks at tourist destination Padri. “I immediately called the ASP Bhaderwah, who further passed the information to the concerned Chowki officer but the Chowki officer reached at the destination two hours late and by then the smugglers had fled from the spot along with the bovines”, Razdan said.
He further informed that he had also taken up the matter with Deputy Commissioner Doda, Superintendent of Police Headquarters, ASP Bhaderwah after which they activated all the police posts and the bovine smugglers were encircled from Bhalessa side. “Finally the two trucks bearing Punjab numbers are seized while nine bovines have been rescued by the police”, Razdan said.
He alleged the involvement of some police officers and police personnel, who were posted in the Police Chowkis along the borders with Himachal Pardesh or which fall along the routes connecting J&K with neighbouring states. “It was only after the information shared by some locals that this inter-state bovine smuggling gang has been caught. We can’t say for how long this smuggling racked has been ongoing from this route and what the previous Police officials had been doing”, Razdan questioned and thanked the incumbent ASP Bhaderwah, who took keen interest and nab the smugglers.
“It is a matter of enquiry as for how long the smuggling has been going on through the Chamba-Bhaderwah route. Apart from the police officials of J&K police deputed along the border routes the conduct of police officials from Himachal Pradesh is also under serious question as they could also be involved in the whole smuggling racket”, sources said, adding that the Police has tightened the grip over the bovine-smuggling routes along Jammu-Pathankot national highway, but it appeared that the smugglers have now take the new route.
