Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 23: Heavy rains along with snowfall lashed Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts of Jammu province with majority of the roads in erstwhile Doda district passing through high altitude got blocked due to accumulation of snowfall.
As per details available with Early Times, many villages in Warwan area of Kishtwar district including world famous British era tourist resort Gumri village received more than one feet of snowfall.
Majority of areas of Marwah sub-division including Warwan Tehsil were cut off from the rest of the world.
The fresh snowfall has also resulted into blocking of Margan top road that connects Marwah valley having population of nearly 40,000 via Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
The other important national highway that provides alternative connectivity to Kashmir valley via Sinthan top also got blocked due to season’s second snowfall.
The administration has issued directions not to allow any vehicular movement on Sinthan road as well as on Margan road until and unless they feel that both the roads are feasible for vehicular movement.
Meanwhile entire Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban belt has received heavy rainfall as result of which the temperature in these areas has come down and thus set the arrival of winter bells ringing.
Meanwhile several complaints of losses to standing crops and fruit bearing plants are pouring in from various areas of erstwhile Doda district.
“Majority of the fruit bearing plants including walnuts have suffered damages in Warwan and its adjoining areas,” said social activist Muzzafar Lone. He urged the government to prepare teams for assessments to the damages suffered to crops and fruit bearing plants.
