Early Times Report
KATHUA, Feb 2: Modi Government's many projects are like dream come true for the people of J&K and the next in the series is widening and improvement of Lakhanpur-Basohli Road, for which the wildlife clearance has been sanctioned and soon people of this hilly belt will have a sigh of relief.
This was stated by Col (Retd) Mahan Singh DDC Chairman Kathua after he got the good news about Wildlife clearance of the 9 Km stretch of Lakhanpur-Basohli road.
In a statement issued to media persons, he said that much awaited wildlife clearance has been accorded for widening and improvement of Lakhanpur- Basohli Road between Basantpur and Thein (9 KM long stretch). He said that the sanction of this clearance has come after concerted efforts for the last one year. He said that the National Level Standing Committee on Wildlife in its meeting on 31st January 2022 accorded clearance for widening and improvement of 9 KM long road between Noora Bridge and Thein. "Construction of 9 KM stretch of road with 10 Mtrs width will cost UT exchequer more than Rs 22 crore. The project will improve the much required connectivity between Lakhanpur and Basohli. The existing single section of the aforesaid road has poor surface and is in a dilapidated state", he said adding that people commuting through this road often complain on social media and even print media has time and again highlighted the issue of the dismal condition of this road link. there have been frequent posts on social and print media highlighting poor condition of this road.
He said it is for the first time that any government at the centre has given so much stress on improving the connectivity of rural areas especially the places having tough hilly terrains. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing keen interest in improving lives of the hilly belt of Kathua district as this improved road stretch will prove as a game changer for the people.
It is pertinent to mention that the upcoming widening and improvement of this section of Basohli-Kathua road will reduce time and distance drastically for the hundreds of commuters traveling from Kathua to Basohli, Bani, Billawar, Mahanpur, Machhedi, etc.
