Refresher Course for Veterinary Officers concludes at SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Feb 2: A nine-day long refresher course for Veterinary Officers of Animal Husbandry Department, Jammu on "Animal Nutrition Interventions & Innovations for Doubling Farmer's Income" organized by Division of Animal Nutrition in collaboration with Animal Husbandry Department, Jammu funded under National Livestock Mission to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav concludes at Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, RS Pura, SKUAST-Jammu.
During the valedictory session of the programme, Chief Guest, Prof. J.P Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu urged the scientists and field vets to document and validates the traditional feeding system in terms of its nutritional significance. He expressed his happiness for a better liaisoning and coordination between University and the line departments for updating the knowledge of field vets from time to time.
Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean, F.V.Sc & A.H and Guest of Honour during the occasion said that in recent years though the progressive dairy farmers have started feeding silage to their animals for better productivity but the preparation of silage by small and marginal dairy farmers at their farms is yet to be adopted.
At the outset, Dr. R.K Sharma, Course Director and HoD, Animal Nutrition heartily welcomed the chief guest. He informed the gathering about the detailed activities conducted under the refresher course. Dr. Sharma apprised the chief guest and the audience that Division of Animal Nutrition has devised the interventions for formulation of balanced and economic rations by use of locally available feed resources such tree and shrub leaves, olive cake, maize cobs, kinnow-mandrin fruit waste, spent marigold flower meal, potato peel waste etc.
During the valedictory function, a compendium was also released and given to the participants as well as course completion certificate distributed among the trainees. All the HoDs of F.V.Sc & A.H, Senior Scientist KVK, Jammu, divisional staffs, and member of University Media Cell were present during the occasion. Proceedings of the programme were coordinated by Dr. Ankur Rastogi and vote of thanks was extended by Dr. A.K. Pathak, course coordinator of the refresher course.
