| Welcome to Parimahal: Scattered garbage, broken chairs, windows greet a visitor | | |  Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 15: Famous Parimahal nestled in the Zabrwan mountain range in Srinagar is slowly turning into ruins.
Scattered garbage, overgrown bushes and broken chairs greet a visitor. The ancient windowpanes have been covered by signboards. These signboards have been provided by the Department of Floriculture, which warn a visitor against the use of polythene and plastic materials in the parks. But the irony is that the Floriculture Department has itself put polythene on broken window panes. Someone needs to tell the officials that they should practice what they preach.
The equipment meant for maintaining the park is also seen lying unattended. "Parimahal is one of the heritage sites in Srinagar city and thousands of visitors throng the place every year. What impression they carry back, it's understood," said an observer.
He said, "The claims about maintaining the heritage sites in Jammu and Srinagar seem to be confined to papers only. The helmsmen just seem interested in publicity. They are unaware about the ground situation."
"One feels sad to see how J&K's heritage sites are being ignored," the observer added.
Chairs, tables and other things lying in a haphazard manner in the park makes one feel unpleasant. Even the bushes have overgrown and it appears no one has paid attention towards these for months together. "Cutting the bushes is a basic exercise that too hasn't been carried out till date. It seems no one is accountable in the present regime," he said. |
