Cruel joke with unemployed youth: Confusion prevails over recruitment of retired engineers
2/16/2022 12:09:05 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 15: Although Jammu and Kashmir Government has clarified that there is no proposal to re-appoint retiring Chief Engineers, there is no clarity regarding the re-employment of retired engineers in other departments.
In a cruel joke with the unemployed engineers of the Union Territory, the Rural Development Department (RDD) of the Jammu and Kashmir Government had issued a recruitment notice regarding the engagement of retired engineers.
The notice was issued on November 11, 2021, and it was clearly mentioned in the same that retired engineers will be engaged Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs), Assistant Engineers (AEs), and Junior Engineers (JEs) in the RDD.
On Monday, the government mentioned that some associations of Power Engineers have expressed their apprehension over the alleged re-appointment of a retiring Chief Engineer (CE) on the post of Executive Director (ED) in the Power Development Department (PDD).
“The department in this context clarifies that there is no such proposal under the consideration of the Government”, the official spokesman said.
Although the government has clarified its position on PDD, there is still confusion over other departments for which recruitment notices have already been issued.
The J&K government has already ordered for engagement of retired engineers on contractual basis for the execution of works in the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department.
The decision, pursuant to the Administrative Council decision No.86/13/2021 dated August 14, 2021, has been taken in the Rural Engineering Wing of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department for execution of works.
The contractual engagement of the retired engineers would be made after inviting applications from the eligible retired Engineers by making the advertisements through the electronic and print media to this effect.
