JAMMU, Mar 4: A major tragedy was averted on Thursday following the triggering of massive landslide at under construction 1000 MW Pakal-Dool power project at Dangdoru area in Dachhan area of Kishtwar District in which the labour sheds prepared by the project management suffered massive damages.
As per the details available with Early Times, the landslide triggered in the area in and around project site due to continuous blasting in the area to pay way for construction of project and today the landslide triggered just below the labour sheds as a result of which they suffered massive damages.
"Luckily the landslide took place during day time- had it been night time- it would have been a long disaster like we witnessed last year in Honzar village" said DDC Chairperson Pooja Thakur.
Pooja Thakur said that it is because of these issues and disaster in offing, they were fighting a lone battle.
"We lost our roads, bridal paths, Forest- our houses in the vicinity of the project are suffering massive damages due to ongoing blasting both at Dangdoru and Nagsini side of the project- No one is taking care of the poor people of the area who are at the forefront of the crises" said Pooja Thakur added that our people are being denied what they deserve including the jobs to local unemployed youths.
"We are not against the construction of power projects-This incident is an eye opener for everyone- we must collectively take efforts to prevent ourselves and our environment before it will be too late" she said and urged upon the authorities and the project management not to play with the lives of innocent people.
Political and Social Activist Randeep Bhandari said that their is need of comprehensive policy and plan to tackle the environmental disaster in the area.
"We are cutting forests for ensuring project and road constructions- but in return we fail to plant fresh trees - which should be triple in number - but same is not the case" said Randeep Bhandari.
He urged upon everyone to join hands to save our environment so that what happened in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand could not be repeated.
