Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 4: In spite of the fact that six posts of Chief Engineers in Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) are vacant since months, the LG administration is not even deeming it fit to fill the posts to make corporation’s functioning normal and effective on ground.
Sources told Early Times newspaper that since months; the posts of Chief Engineers which are six in number have not been filled, putting the normal functioning of JKPDCL to a grinding halt. “This has left the system crippled to the core. The senior most Superintending Engineers are waiting for their promotions since months and on the other hand, there is plethora of the posts of the Chief Engineers vacant. Especially in JKPDCL that was established otherwise to cater to the surging needs pertaining to the power deficit, one wonders why the posts are deliberately left vacant by the administration,” says a senior official wishing not to be named.
JKPDCL - Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited, previously JKSPDC, a Government of J&K enterprise, was incorporated as a Private Limited company on 16th February 1995. The Corporation has the mandate to takeover, execute, complete, operate and maintain all power stations and power projects in the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir.
Power Development in Jammu and Kashmir has a long and distinguished history. 9MW Mohra Hydro-electric Plant, among the first of its kind in the subcontinent, was developed as early as 1905.
The Corporation presently has hydroelectric projects with aggregate installed capacity of over 1210 MW located across J&K and Ladakh, including 900 MW Baglihar HEP. The Corporation also has Gas Turbines based on HSD with installed capacity of 175 MW at Pampore near Srinagar. As per the official website, the Corporation has an annual turnover of over US$ 150 Million.
