Patel Nagar suffers as construction of drains gets delayed
3/12/2022 12:01:30 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 11: Residents of Patel Nagar's Lane No 2 in Talab Tillo area of the city are facing immense difficulties due to the slow pace of the construction work of drains.
Inhabitants of the area informed that the work for construction of drains was taken up two months ago but its completion is nowhere in sight as it is going on at a snail's pace.
Sharing their miseries, the residents of Lane No 2, Patel Nagar claim that they have been facing inconvenience due to an inordinate delay in the completion of construction of drains."The slow pace of work has taken a heavy toll on the residents as the lane was dug up completely for constructing drains on one side of the street."
The short patch that has been undergoing renovation for the last about eight weeks is almost in shambles due to which the lane presently is out of bounds for two-wheeler riders."Because of the digging of the lane and dumping of building material and debris it has become impossible for us to commute on our two wheelers. We are adopting other routes to go out or reach our houses on bikes and scooties."
Pointing towards the crushed stones and sand strewn about, a resident of the area told Early Times that it has been around for the last several days that this ‘mess’ has been lying outside his house. “There is no harm in development work and no doubt it is only for us but proper planning lacked here,” he said, explaining how work was started in an unprofessional manner.
Another resident, Rajinder Singh, said that the residents are dissatisfied with the pace of work. “First, we had to suffer from the dilapidated roads and lack of water outlet but now the delayed construction of drains has made the residents irritable,” he said. He said that the whole thoroughfare has been uprooted that resulted in a dusty atmosphere in the locality.
Several other residents said that there was no doubt that the work did not require too much time but it has stretched a bit longer than expected mainly due to lack of manpower engaged for the purpose by the concerned contractor.
