Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 25: After the abrogation of Article 350 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UTs) not even a single local has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor in different universities of Jammu province. The Jammu and Kashmir Government is claiming that appointments were made purely on academic and research achievements, social media a flooded with posts in which Jammuities are raising questions over appointments of non-locals as vice-chancellors of different universities of Jammu.
After the appointment of Prof Umesh Rai as Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, many netizens expressed their anger over ignoring local deserving candidates for this important position.
Outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof Manoj Dhar was the only academician, who was heading a university in Jammu province. After the appointment of Prof Umesh Rai as the new Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, all universities in this part of the Union Territory are headed by non-locals.
Ignoring local academicians in appointing Vice-Chancellor of universities in Jammu province has created discontentment among the people of Jammu, who was hoping that discrimination with them will be ended after the abrogation of Article 370.
People regretted that claim discrimination with Jammu has not ended despite the abrogation of contentious Article 370 in J&K in 2019.
All universities in the Jammu region including the University of Jammu, Cluster University of Jammu, Central University of Jammu, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu, and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri have non-local vice-chancellors.
