Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 18: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel was killed and another wounded in a militant attack in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday evening, Police said.
They said the attack on RPF took place outside Kakapora Railway Station at around 6:05 pm, in which Assistant Sub-Inspector Devraj Kumar and Head Constable Surinder Kumar were critically wounded.
"In this terror crime incident, both the personnel received critical gunshot injuries and were immediately evacuated to hospital for treatment. However, Surinder Kumar succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom," a police statement said.
The whole area has been cordoned off with the help of reinforcement and search in the area is going on to trace the attackers. Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation.
"Officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the terror crime," added the statement.
The attack on RPF personnel took place days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Modi is scheduled to arrive on April 24 in the Union territory and is likely to address Panchayat members in the Samba district of Jammu. There has been a spurt in targeted attacks in Kashmir in the last few weeks.
