Early Times Report

KATHUA, Feb 12: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Lakhanpur, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kathua, on Wednesday organised a road safety awareness programme at the driving test trial ground in Lakhanpur.
The programme was held for applicants appearing for driving licence tests, with the objective of sensitising new drivers about safe driving practices and adherence to traffic rules. A large number of licence aspirants participated in the awareness camp.
Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kathua, along with Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Shammi Kumar and officials of the District Legal Services Authority, addressed the applicants and highlighted the importance of road discipline in preventing accidents. The officials stressed strict compliance with traffic norms, including observance of speed limits, use of seat belts, avoidance of mobile phone usage while driving, and mandatory wearing of crash helmets by two-wheeler riders.

They also urged the applicants to develop responsible driving habits from the very beginning to ensure their own safety as well as that of other road users.
The speakers emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility and called upon the public, especially young and first-time drivers, to follow traffic rules in letter and spirit. The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which applicants were briefed about legal provisions related to traffic violations and their consequences.
The organisers stated that such awareness initiatives would continue in future to promote road safety and reduce road accidents in the district.
