Srinagar, Feb 12: Barring the hill stations, night temperatures across the Kashmir Valley remained largely above the freezing point, the Meteorological Department said on Thursday.
According to the MeT office, minimum temperatures were 1-3°C above normal at many places in the Kashmir Division, while in the Jammu Division they remained near normal, hovering between 0-4°C of the seasonal average.
The lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir was recorded at the ski resort of Gulmarg at minus 5.5°C. In the Jammu Division, Bhaderwah was the coldest at 1.2°C.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 3.0°C. Qazigund 1.2°C and Kokernag 1.6°C – all above the freezing mark. In north Kashmir’s border area, Kupwara recorded a marginal dip below freezing at minus 0.8°C, while Konibal on the outskirts of Srinagar registered 3.0°C.
However, the hill resorts continued to reel under sub-zero conditions, with Pahalgam recording minus 5.2°C and Sonmarg minus 6.1°C, reflecting persistent cold in higher reaches.
Meanwhile, the MeT department said there is no forecast of any major rain or snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir till February 24. The weather is expected to remain mainly dry over the next 24 hours, while the outlook for the subsequent two days also indicates largely dry conditions, with the possibility of very light rain or snow at isolated places.
