| Foreign women in Jammu Spas trigger security alarm, agencies probe possible network | | | Atul Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 12: The detention of three Thai women from two separate spa centres in Jammu over the past two months has set off alarm bells within security agencies, exposing what officials describe as a serious and disturbing security lapse. While the women have been detained in connection with alleged immoral and unethical activities, the bigger concern for authorities is how foreign nationals managed to reside and work in Jammu without the knowledge or clearance of security agencies. Highly placed sources said the presence of foreign women operating in the city “under the radar” has been taken very seriously, with agencies now probing the possibility of a larger organised network. The latest action unfolded on Tuesday evening when Jammu Police registered an FIR and detained several individuals, including two Thai nationals, during a raid on a spa centre in the Narwal area on the outskirts of the city. The operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs suggesting that foreign nationals were residing and working at the establishment without valid travel documents or mandatory permissions. Police teams conducted a detailed search of the premises, scrutinising visitor registers, employment records, and other documentation. Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) and other incriminating material were seized for forensic examination. An FIR (No. 44/2026) has been registered under Sections 21 and 24 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. “Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether a wider network is involved,” a senior police officer said, adding that several persons found at the spa were detained for questioning. Officials revealed that the raid was prompted by repeated complaints regarding alleged illegal and i Women detained in connection with alleged immoral and unethical activities, The bigger concern is how foreign nationals are managing to reside and work in Jammu without the knowledge or clearance of security agencies. This marks the second such crackdown in less than two months. On December 28, 2025, in a similar operation at a spa centre a Thai woman was detained. moral activities at certain spa centres in the city. This marks the second such crackdown in less than two months. On December 28, 2025, police conducted a similar operation at a spa centre in Channi Himmat, where a Thai woman was detained. The spa owner, a resident of Kurukshetra, Haryana, was booked under FIR No. 237/2025 at Police Station Channi Himmat under Section 24 of the Immigration Act and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly keeping a foreign national without mandatory permission or prior intimation to authorities. The recurrence of such incidents has intensified scrutiny of spa and massage centres across Jammu, with security agencies now examining whether regulatory loopholes are being exploited. The developments have also revived memories of a shocking incident last year. On August 21, 2025, 30-year-old Mehjabeen Sheikh, a Mumbai resident, was shot dead at a spa centre on the city’s outskirts. She, along with her sister Fatima Akil (21) and Jaspreet Kour (28) of Ludhiana, was admitted to a private nursing home in Channi Himmat with bullet injuries. Mehjabeen later succumbed to her injuries at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu. The case took a dramatic turn when it emerged that local police had allegedly attempted to pass off the bullet injuries as the result of a road accident. The matter was subsequently handed over to the Crime Branch. Three police officials were suspended for allegedly trying to cover up the murder. With back-to-back detentions of foreign nationals and past controversies casting a long shadow, security agencies are now racing to tighten surveillance and regulatory oversight of spa centres in Jammu, amid growing concerns over illegal immigration, organised rackets, and potential security vulnerabilities. |
