TOP STORY OF THE DAY
150 yrs on, Dogra Museum sans functional building
International Museum Day
5/19/2018 12:07:46 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 18: The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums is celebrating International Museum Day, even as after 150 years of its establishment the Dogra Art Museum has no functional building for preservation of over 7000 antique artworks. Moreover, instead of taking action against the officials involved in the damage caused to the precious Dogra heritage of Basohli paintings, an outgoing official had refused to initiate any enquiry in the matter. The Dogra Art Museum was established in 1867, when Prince of Wales (5th) Edward had desired to visit Jammu and Kashmir to see the artworks. "Kharak Singh, the then Finance Minister of Maharaja Ranbir Singh, established the museum in less than 18 months and the building of Legislative Complex was used to house the artefacts," an official said. He said that in 1947, when Jammu and Kashmir government took reins of the state, the building of Art Museum was used for Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. "The Dogra Art Museum was housed in the second floor of the Gandhi Sewa Sadan. In 1990, the then Gov...

Run up to Modi visit
5/19/2018 12:07:35 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 18: Even as brave jawans and civilians are being killed along the border by Pakistani forces in Jammu region, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appreciated the enemy country's Army while ally Bharatiya Janta Party is silent. On May 17, the PDP termed the Pakistan army's statement in which it expressed willingness to hold talks with India, as a "very positive development at a right time." In a formal statement from the party, PDP General Secretary Mansoor Hussain said such a development will strengthen the re-conciliatory measures that are in the offing between the two countries to resolve the long pending issues. The statement has come as a sho...

5/19/2018 12:06:47 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 18: Once again overruling Governor House's order that prevents acting Vice-Chancellor from taking policy decisions, the Jammu University has issued a list of candidates for various posts. In January this year, the Governor House as well as the Higher Education Department had asked the JU to postpone selection process/ interview for various positions in the varsity. But in an attempt to pave way for VC's 'blue eyed' candidates, Special Secretary, Neeraj Sharma, issued a list of ineligible/eligible candidates for the post of Registrar, Director College Development Council and Controller of Examination. DHS Jammu promotes favouritism brazenly
Doc posted on fictional post at UHC Sidhra
5/19/2018 12:06:39 AM
Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, May 18: It appears that Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Jammu has become a hub of nepotism and favouritism. For example, an influential doctor has been posted, for the last five years, at Urban Health Centre Sidhra against a post which doesn't exist. "Dr Jameela Akhtar was posted at UHC Roop Nagar in 2011. She remained posted at Roop Nagar till 2014. After that she managed to get herself posted at UHC Sidhra which is near her home," sources told Early Times. They said this example of brazen favouritism in the DHS Jammu mocks at the claims of government of bringing transparency in the system. There was only one post of National Health Missio...

BJP makes Jammu people sitting ducks to appease Mehbooba
5/19/2018 12:06:28 AM
Early Times Report RS Pura, May 18: Brutal killing of four civilians and one BSF jawan in Pakistani shelling has authenticated the allegations that BJP has made people of Jammu as sitting ducks to appease PDP leadership especially Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. By announcing unilaterial ceasefire on the demand of Mehbooba Mufti, Union Government has virtually tied hands of the security forces and this step of the Union Home Ministry has given free hand to terrorists and Pakistani soldiers to attack our security forces at any place. On the second day of Ramzan ceasefire, Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling in the areas adjoining Intenational Border (IB) and inflicted huge casualties to t...

People turn out to be ultimate sufferers
5/19/2018 12:06:19 AM
Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report srinagar, May 18: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) coalition government in the state seems to be least bothered about the problems being faced by the common masses and the same gets reflected every now and then. For the last five days Land Record Assistants (LRAs) known as Patwaris in local parlance working across the length and breadth of Jammu & Kashmir are on strike in support of their demands. The indifference towards this issue can be gauged by the fact that no statement whatsoever has come from the government so far. The Patwaris under the banner of All Jammu & Kashmir Patwar Association (AJKPA) are on indefinite str...

The Crime Branch reportedly wanted the case to be transferred from Kathua to Ramban. The Apex court didn't consider the suggestion of the Crime Branch and, instead, transferred the case to Pathankot.
