Computerisation of the land records in limbo, project remorselessly shelved

Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 24: Even when years ago the central government sanctioned a whooping 184 crores for the digitisation of the land records in Jammu and Kashmir, the project continues to remain shelved without any reason. Thecomputerisation of the land records in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was a component of National Land Record Modernization Program (NLRMP) but ironically there were no funds released by the previous state governments for the proposal while eyes were set on the grants being accorded by the GoI. As per the officials privy to the case, the government of India has sanctioned rupees 184 crores for the digitisation of the records. However, the dilatory mode of functioning only pushed the proposal in the back burner, shelving it in a ruthless way. The erstwhile state government while giving reasons for not digitizing the land records here are enough to make one understand that how much the authorities here were non-serious in coping with the emerging trends and hell- bent to push state to the medieval times.
