Jammu, May 15: The examination hall of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Miran Sahib of block RS Pura was sanctioned three years ago, but the building is incomplete till date, reflecting negligence of the government towards education sector. Sources in Education department told Early Times that in 2012 the government sanctioned the examination hall building at an estimated cost of Rs. 19 lakh. Priya Sharma, a pass out of the school, said that more than 600 students are enrolled in the school each year from Class IX-XII. "The classrooms are sufficient but during exams, in absence of examination hall, work in other classrooms is suspended," she said. "If the school had an examination hall then there was no need to suspend the classes, but even after three years the construction work is incomplete," she said. Contractor Surjeet Singh attributed the delay in completion of examination hall to withholding of payment to him by the Education department. "Out of the total payment, Rs 9 lakh, is still pending with them. Last year, the department released just Rs 50-60 thousand. When the release the full payment, the work would be completed," Singh said. Assistant Executive Engineer RS Pura said that he was unaware about the work. He assured that the matter will be discussed with concerned Junior Engineer. |
