Pak handled Lakhvi's case irresponsibly, admits Rijiju
Modi Govt's failure to act tough against terrorists disappoints people
5/16/2015 12:01:38 AM
"If the Government of India knows that Pakistani agencies did not produce these evidences properly before the court then why it couldn't register protest? Why it failed to exert pressure on Pakistan to seek Lakhvi's custody and try him in an Indian court? People have a right to know that why Modi led government is giving space to Pakistan and why no action is being taken against those who are responsible for targeting India and killing innocents over here."
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 15: The Baharitya Janata Party (BJP) led NDA government soon after taking over the reins of the country in May last year had announced that "hooliganism" of Pakistan won't be tolerated and neighboring country would be given a befitting reply if it indulges in any sort of misadventure. However, the claims of the Modi led government have remained confined to papers only as nothing has changed during the past one year. Terrorists responsible for targeting India time and again are roaming scot free in Pakistan and India is acting as a mute spectator.
The Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, whom Pakistan had to arrest after the then regime at the Centre led by Congress exerted pressure on the neighbouring country was set free by the Pakistan Court recently and India couldn't do anything to prevent his release.
Reacting to Lakhvi's release Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said that it was the "irresponsible and inefficient" handling by various agencies in Pakistan which led to the release of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi from jail.
"We have given all relevant papers, all evidence against Lakhvi. But Pakistani agencies did not produce these evidences properly before court, which resulted in his release from jail. They handled the case in a very irresponsible and inefficient manner," Rijiju told reporters.
If the Government of India knows that Pakistani agencies did not produce these evidences properly before the court then why it couldn't register protest? Why it failed to exert pressure on Pakistan to seek Lakhvi's custody and try him in an Indian court? People have a right to know that why Modi led government is giving space to Pakistan and why no action is being taken against those who are responsible for targeting India and killing innocents over here.
Referring to 1993 Mumbai serial blasts key accused, Dawood, Rijiju said there was no doubt that the underworld don was living in Pakistan. "Dawood is in Pakistan. There is no doubt about that. We are committed to bringing him back. But I cannot give any time-frame as Pakistan is not cooperating with our request," he said.
"It's strange that despite Pakistan not cooperating with India and not taking any of the issues seriously, GoI has not taken any steps to tighten its noose over the neighbouring country," said an analyst.
He said, "Security agencies have been warning that infiltration may increase and terrorist launching pads are intact in PoK and Pakistan is looking for a chance to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir. Despite GoI being aware about the nefarious designs of Pakistan no steps are being taken to warn the neighbouring country."
The analyst expressed surprise over GOI contemplating to resume India-Pakistan cricket ties. "It's strange that despite Pakistan not do anything to prove its sincerity we are keen on playing cricket with them! It's ridiculous," he said.
When Rijiju was asked whether India should play cricket with Pakistan as part of "cricket diplomacy", He had said the government would take an appropriate decision taking into account all relevant issues as "people's sentiment" was involved in it.
"Modi government has not done enough to address the sentiments of people during its first year in office. One hopes it (Modi) government would give a befitting reply to Pakistan and would teach a lesson to the neighboring country rather than playing cricket with it," he added.
