Early Times Report

Jammu, May 15: The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today received a big jolt as three of its senior leaders today resigned from the party citing no reasons in the resignation letter forwarded to party President. Chenab Valley that comprises of three Muslim majority Districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban with six assembly segments is vital for the party's future strategy as party leadership is hoping to get some seats from the area in future so as to add up to its tally in case it fell short of majority in Kashmir valley.
As per the details available with Early Times, senior party leaders from Kishtwar Raiz Ahmed Zarger (Retired ADDC), Mushtaq Ahmed Qazi (Retired ADC) and Noor Hussain Malik (Retired Tehsildar) tendered a joint resignation to party President Mehbooba Mufti. "We the signatories of the letter namely Raiz Ahmed Zarger ibne Nishat Kishtwari, Mushtaq Ahmed Qazi & Noor Hussain Malik hereby resign from the basic membership of J&K Peoples Democratic Party today on 15th of May 2015" read the resignation letter.
Among the three leaders who resigned today from the party, Mushtaq Ahmed Qazi and Noor Hussain Malik were active in the party for last eight years and played vital role in 2008 assembly elections in which party got more than 10000 votes from Kishtwar for Syed Asgar Ali, while Raiz Ahmed Zarger was affiliated with the party since last five years and all the three leaders campaigned vigorously for the party candidate Firdous Ahmed Tak in last year Assembly elections. Though the three leaders did not mention any reason for resigning from the party, but the sources informed the "Early Times" that ignoring of senior leaders by the party leadership is the main cause behind the extreme step taken by the three leaders. The prevailing groupism in the party and elevation of juniors in the party is also said to be the main reason of anger among the party leaders, particularly among the seniors.
It is pertinent to mention that last year three party leaders from Chenab valley including founder members were expelled by the party after they raised banner of revolt against party leadership for taking unilateral discussion. Among these three leaders, Sheikh Mujeeb Ahmed joined Congress, Raiz Zarger contested election as an independent. Party's founder member from Kishtwar Shakir Siddiqui did not join any political party and continued to work for the masses as a social activist under the banner of Public Awareness Front Kishtwar. Former MLC Syed Asgar Ali has also gone into hibernation after he was denied party post by the President Mehbooba Mufti.
