Farmers at the verge of starvation: Kissan Board
VC busy in enjoying felicitation parties
5/16/2015 12:36:31 AM
State Govt too unconcerned about farming community of Jammu province
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 15: Farmers of Jammu province are at the verge of starvation because they have lost their two successive crops thanks to the "Weather God" but newly appointed vice chairman of the Kissan Advisory Board is busy in enjoying felicitation functions being organised in his favour by different organisations.
State Government has also, so far, shown cold shoulder response to the helpless farmers of Jammu province who have no option but to take money from moneylenders from their respective areas. Majority of the small farmers of Jammu province especially those of the plains of Jammu, R S Pura, Bishnah, Samba and Kathua were at the verge of starvation because this year's crop of wheat has completely damaged. Untimely rains in the month of April and May have wrecked havoc in these plains which are main wheat and rice production belt of Jammu and Kashmir. The unexpected rains have totally damaged wheat crops. Similarly rice crop was also damaged due to devastating rains in the month of September 2014. Crops in the plains were washed away which was caused due to heavy downpours for six successive days.
To look into the problems of farmers, the State Government has constituted Kissan Board and recently a BJP leader, who is "Man Friday" of senior party functionary, was appointed as vice chairman of this Board. His appointed was made with an aim to reach to the farming community but this Vice Chairman is these days just enjoying felicitation function and finding it difficult to come out of the hang-out.
Appointment of Daljeet Singh as Vice Chairman of the Kissan Board has already created resentment in the BJP because party has rejected claims of its Kissan Morcha chief and appointed Daljeet Singh as Vice Chairman because he is member of the "Kitchen Cabinet" of the senior BJP leader.
Vice Chairman of the Kissan Board appears to be not aware of the problems of the farmers but he was appointed due to pressure of the senior leader. Vice chairman is very much aware that he has patronage of senior party leader so there is no need to do the job for which he has been appointed. He is more concerned about sycophancy of that senior leader instead of solving woes of farmers.
