| MA Stadium faces neglect of Sports Council, Sans basic infrastructure | | | Shiv Dev Thakur

JAMMU, May 15: Notwithstanding the tall claims of the government and concerned department in developing the sports infrastructure of the state, the M A stadium in the heart of the city of the temples is craving for the attention to get suitable for sports activities.
At a time when the Jammu and Kashmir State SportsCouncil is in limelight over construction of new sports infrastructure in Jammu and elsewhere in the state, the indifferent and incompetent administration of the Council is doing little to save the existing infrastructure from systematic decay and it also falls short to provide the basic facilities.
While sources in the Council pointed the worst condition of the stadia in Jammu to lack of foresight on part of the Council administration that the council is not providing the basic facilities to the sportsman.
Isn't it ironical that the budding sports talent of Jammu have to rely upon their cellphones to practice in dark as whenever there is a powerc outage , the sports council has failed to provide power backup.
The pathetic condition of the Stadium as well as the attitude of the Sports Council can be seen by anyone on entering the stadium. A similar incident was noticed when a team of Early Times on entering the stadium astonished to observe that the tiny sportsperson were seen practicing sans lighting arrangement. The players were seen practicing while holding the mobiles with flashlights so as to give proper light to their companions as the sports stadium of Jammu sans generator facility.
Sources in the sharp contest said that earlier, the Council have purchased a silent generator and have installed itt in sports House rather than installing it in Stadium for providing electricity for the use of Sports activities.
Sports officer Rajan Sharma when contacted admitted that the Stadium sans generator facility. He also said that the tenders have been invited also in this regard and one generator was installed too in sports house and "brief details can be obtained from XEn, Sports council, S Manjeet Singh", he added.
Several attempts to contact S Manjeet Singh went in vain as he was not available while AEE, MA Stadium when contacted said that he does not have any idea about the installation of Generator as the same have not joined the office at the time of the installation. |
