Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 1: Kashmir's separatist leaders are being allowed to visit Pakistan at a time when the Centre has been reiterating that pro-Pakistan activities won't be tolerated in the state.
Syed Salim Geelani, a former leader of the Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who recently joined Geelani's Hurriyat, has returned from Pakistan where he is believed to have met militant and separatist leaders.
Sources said Hurriyat had sent him to the neighboring country to get "instructions on party's future course of action including waving of Pakistan flag in the Valley".
Salim Geelani, who also heads the Jammu and Kashmir National Peoples Party, announced his return from Pakistan at his party's "delegate session" in Srinagar.
"During the session the delegates hailed the recent visit of its chairman Syed Saleem Geelani to Pakistan. While felicitating the chairman, the participants stated that during his visit Geelani stressed for the peaceful resolution of Jammu and Kashmir. The session thanked Pakistan and Azad Kashmir government particularly for extending political and diplomatic support to the Kashmir cause," said a party handout.
From BJP to RSS to Pakistan, the separatist leader discussed everything in the session. "During the session the participants stated that under a well planned conspiracy some people for their political interests are pursuing the policies which would strengthen RSS and BJP plans practically on the ground," the handout said.
"The participants said in the name of Kashmiri Pandits and West Pakistan Refuges, India is trying to divert the Kashmir issue," it said, adding that no non-resident of Kashmir either from Pakistan or India will be allowed to live as permanent citizen of the state.
During his presidential address, Salim Geelani said, "I was impressed by the sentiments expressed by the people."
"Pakistan stressed unity among the pro-freedom leadership to take Kashmir issue to its logical conclusion. In this regard NPP will soon start a drive under which various meeting are proposed to be held with civil society and pro-freedom leaders and political parties," the handout said.
"Salim stated that Kashmiris have offered innumerable sacrifices for the right of self determination. He said despite facing enormous oppression Kashmiris have not given up their just struggle and demand for right to self determination," the handout said.
The development has left the BJP red-faced as its statements on upholding national integrity don't seem to be going in line with the ground situation.
After unabated incidents of waking of Pakistan flags and freedom enjoyed by separatists to hold anti-India rallies, allowing separatists to visit Pakistan is the latest from the ruling PDP-BJP alliance.
