MHA asks Police to probe role of NC, Cong leaders | Jammu Unrest | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 8: The Police are investigating the role of senior Congress leader and a National Conference leader for their alleged involvement in instigating the Sikh community to hit the streets and indulge in rioting in Satwari area here. The unrest left a Sikh youth dead and paralyzed the normal life in Jammu region for three days. The Ministry of Home Affairs, sources said, has asked the state police to investigate the matter at the earliest and submit its report before the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, who has been asked to probe the incident, comes up with his findings. "A senior Congress leader was not only in constant touch with the protestors but even held series of meetings with them and provoked them. Some of the protestors were also close aides of the Congress leader," said a police official. Sources said it was also an attempt by him (Congress leader) to pressurize the government to stall many probes initiated against him. "The NC leader who is eyeing an important post in the Sikh community tried to add fuel to the fire to pressurize the government to support him in the upcoming elections for the post," said a source. "The two leaders tried to become the sole guardian of the Sikh community and they tried to sow the seeds of hatred," sources added. MHA, according to the sources, has asked the state police to hold the probe without any fear and not to succumb under political pressure. |
