Early Times Report
jammu, June 8: Two big politicians along with 20 "leaders" and bureaucrats are likely to get notices to vacate the forest land which they have alleged encroached to construct their big houses in Batindi, Sidhara, Chowhadi and Sujwan areas in the outskirts of Jammu city. The Forest Department, in its on-going demarcation process in these areas, has established that two top politicians have constructed their houses on forest land. The top politicians have brought a small piece of private land but they have encroached upon huge chunk of forest land while constructing their huge houses.
Forest Minister, while addressing a press conference today gave hints that very soon his department was going to take action against very influential persons but the Minister has not disclosed names of these big persons.
Credible sources said list of these big persons has already being prepared by the Forest Department and very soon action will be started to expose them.
Credible sources further said that the two top politicians, who are likely to face action, belong to opposition parties so the Forest Minister is moving cautiously because he does not want to give a message that he is involved in "witch-hunting".
Earlier Forest Minister, Bali Bhagat, while addressing a press conference said that there was a "big nexus" among senior politicians, some police and revenue officials.
"There is a big nexus between land grabbers, some police officers, revenue officials and senior politicians of the state who have encroached upon a large part of forest land" the Minister said, adding that records of such land have been destroyed.
Stressing that the government will identify and retrieve land from the encroachers, he said, "We came to know that these politicians have got the record of such land destroyed in a systematic way. But we will dig out the records from archives and retrieve the land from illegal occupation."
No politician or officials of police, revenue, forest or any other department found involved in nexus with land grabbers will be spared, the minister warned.
He said that the people who had encroached upon forest land and now facing eviction were spreading rumours that such move was aimed at a particular community.
"The people who are spreading such rumours are those who have encroached upon the state land. I must assure you that whosoever has encroached upon the state land irrespective of religion or political affiliation will face the music," Bhagat said.
"An inter-departmental committee has been constituted for conducting demarcation of the land which has been encroached upon," he said.
The minister informed that 13,000 hectare of encroached forest land upon have been identified, out of which 3100 hectares have been retrieved so far.
