Early Times Report
jammu, June 8: The coalition government is yet to announce an ex-gratia relief to the families of six soldiers from J&K who were killed in an attack by militants in Manipur last week.
Eighteen soldiers belonging to Army's 6 Dogra Infantry Regiment were killed and 11 others injured when militants ambushed their convoy in Manipur's Chandel district on Thursday last, in what is being described as the worst casualties the Army has suffered in recent years.
Seven of the slain soldiers hailed from Himachal Pradesh and six from Jammu region, and taking the lead, the Himachal government led by Virbhadra Singh has announced a financial assistance to the tune of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the soldiers from his state.
On the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir government has not issued any statement in this regard.
Naib Subedar Ram Singh of Suankha Morh, Vijaypur, Samba, was among the six slain jawans from J&K. His elder brother Ved Parkash told Early Times that local MLA, Chander Parkash Ganga along with Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh had attended the last rites of his brother but didn't announce any kind of assistance.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) came down heavily on the PDP-BJP government for its silence on the sacrifice of the brave soldiers.
In a statement, JKPCC has urged the government to "recognize the supreme sacrifices of brave soldiers for the sake of the nation" and announce financial assistance to their families and other support as has been done by the government of Himachal Pradesh for those soldiers belonging to that state who laid down their lives in this attack.
It may be recalled that the state unit of Bhartiya Janata Party was quite loud and vociferous in opposition when the kin of Chamel Singh, the Indian prisoner who was killed in a Pak jail, were not compensated by the previous National Conference-Congress government.
But after gaining power in the state by forging an alliance with the PDP, the BJP has not uttered even a single word in favour of the supreme sacrifices of the soldiers of Jammu region who attained martyrdom in Manipur.
Here are names of the six Army men who were killed in the militant attack in Manipur
1) Nb. Sub. Ram Singh
2) Hav. Sat Pal Bhasin
3) Hav. Sunil Kumar Sharma
4) Hav. Randeep Singh
5) L.Nk. Kuldeep Raj
