Jammu, Nov 24: The unprofessional approach of the Estates Department by shedding its responsibility to recover catering charges from Move and Non Move employees from their salaries, has profusely caused the financial damage to the state exchequer in crores in past five years but the department is yet to wake up from deep slumber.
Sources told Early Times as per government order which envisaged that Darbar Move Employees who are staying in security zones and are provided food by the Department would be charged catering charges at the prescribed rates. "The order further said that all Jammu based employees who are posted in Srinagar in non move offices and are lodged together in hotels by the Estates Department will only be provided lodging facilities. The meal charges shall be settled directly between the employees and the concerned hotel management. However, where such non move employees are lodged in such hotels hired for move employees, the prescribed catering charges shall be recovered from time to time," they maintained.
They further said that these catering charges were required to be deducted by the Drawing and Disbursing Officers from their salaries but Estates Department, showing callousness did not issue the copies of allotment of hotel accommodations in favour of officers/ employees to Drawing and Disbursing Officers with instructions to deduct the catering charges at the prescribed rates from their salaries resulting dues reached to crores.
"The catering charges of such officers/ officials have reached in crores. It was the responsibility of the Estates Department to ensure the deduction catering charges from the salaries of the concerned employees by their Drawing and Disbursing Officers," they informed.
