Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Nov 24: National Conference President and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) is not India's "personal property" and dared the Government of India (GoI) to take it back from Pakistan.
Dr Farooq, while referring to the India passing a resolution claiming that PoK is a part of India, said, "Pakistan is one of the stakeholder which GOI has itself accepted--- there was a resolution on this which says that POK is the part of India. Kya Yeh Tumare Baap Ka Hai (Is this your forefathers property)."
While addressing a rally here the former chief minister said, "GOI has no guts to retrieve back the PoK from Pakistan neither Pakistan has guts to snatch Kashmir from India. In between innocent people of Kashmir are suffering and border residents have become the canon- fodder due to escalating tension on borders."
Referring to his meeting with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee after he (Vajpayee) went to Lahore, Farooq said that Vajpayee told him that in his meeting with Pakistani Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif he (Vajpayee) had suggested him to strengthen his position and make borders irrelevant in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Nawaz Sharif told Vajpayee that the suggestion put forth by him is good but said that Pak army may oppose this move and he (Sharif) sought time from Vajpayee so that the atmosphere could be made conducive " Dr Farooq quoted Vajpaee having told him after returning from Lahore.
The NC president, who addressed his first rally in Kishtwar after eight years, said, " War is no solution. At the end Government of India would have to talk to Pakistan."
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making his mother stand in a line to get the old currency notes exchanged, Farooq said, "A good son sacrifices everything to ensure that his mother doesn't face any problem. Pm Modi should apologize to the people for the inconvenience they have faced due to his (Modi's) decision of demonetization.
He said that the PDP-BJP Government has been rendered completely defunct in Kashmir and its writ was being questioned on daily basis by quarters it had tried to appease and then suppress.
While referring to the anti-BJP plank of the PDP during electioneering and its subsequent U-turns in its run up to forging an alliance with the BJP he said, "PDP instilled fear among voters about a looming threat and danger of the BJP making inroads into Kashmir but ironically changed its colours with the sole aim of attaining political power at the cost of its ideology and promises," he added.
Farooq said that political opportunism and breach of the people's trust would have serious implications for PDP.
He also condemned the statement of RSS Chief Mohan Baghwat that India is a "Hindu Rashtra" and said that India belongs to everyone and not only to Hindus. "RSS wants to divide the country which is making the country hollow from inside," he added.
