What will the Cong do now?
Kamaal's blistering attack
9/24/2013 11:59:30 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: NC president Farooq Abdullah's brother and NC working president and J&K CM Omar Abdullah's uncle Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal has declared that he would continue to attack the Congress party. The question arises what will the Congress do in the wake of what the NC additional general secretary said?
On Sunday, the NC additional general secretary said that no one could prevent him from speaking the "truth". "The Congress leaders have conveyed their concerns to Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni about my statements against their party leadership but I don't care and I would keep on speaking the truth," he reportedly said, and added that the "Congress party is scared of our (read NC) popularity". He not only challenged the Congress but also charged it with shielding Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, who, according to him, was also involved in the "conspiracy
hatched by the former Army Chief General V K Singh to topple the government of Omar Abdullah. Mir is an agent of the Army and associated with the Congress, he said, and added that Omar Abdullah could not act against Mir because the JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz is at his back and call as he is his choice. "Ghulam Hassan Mir is the State Congress Chief Prof Saifuddin Soz's choice as Soz himself has conveyed to NC that Mir is associated with Congress party," he was quoted as saying.
Mustafa Kamaal's statement that General V K Singh and Ghulam Hassan Mir hatched a conspiracy is as atrocious and mischievous as it is condemnable and anti-national. The General had nothing to gain by toppling Omar Abdullah's government. Besides, Mir has never been in a position to destabilize the state government. But more than that, Mir is an associated member of the Congress which could topple the Omar Abdullah government any time. The fact of the matter is that Kamaal made fool of himself as before.
It needs to be underlined that Kamaal made anti-Congress, anti-General and anti-Nir statements on the day the Congress held a convention in Srinagar with top party leaders like Ambika Soni, JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and Union Health Minister and former J&K CM Ghulam Nabi Azad taking part in the much-hyped Congress convention. What the NC additional general secretary said could be construed as a direct challenge to the Congress. Will the Congress allow the uncouth and provocative Kamaal go scot-free and become an object of ridicule and contempt or will it take come out of the government to bring it down and teach the ungrateful Abdullahs a lesson? It is extremely unlikely that the weak and meek Congress would act against the NC. The reason is that it is the Congress high command, which maintains cordial relations with subversive Abdullahds, plays all the shots. There is hardly any Congress leader in the state who has the courage to open his/her mouth and tell the Congress high command that the NC leadership has been consistently damaging the Congress party ever since January 2005, when it formed coalition government with the full backing of the Congress high command.
