Engineer Rashid demands immediate expulsion of Mir from cabinet
Says Omar should resign if he can't sack Minister

Jehangir Rashid
SRINAGAR, Sept 24: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) today asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to sack Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir from the state cabinet failing which Omar should tender resignation as the Chief Minister. The party has also demanded registering of First Information Report (FIR) in the army pay-off case.
"Since serious allegations have been leveled against the Agriculture Minister that he received money from army to topple the government in 2010 the Chief Minister should respond and sack him from the state cabinet. If the Chief Minister is not able to do so then he should tender his resignation so that people have some belief in the mainstream political system," said AIP President Engineer Rashid while addressing a press conference here today.
Engineer Rashid said that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should hold probe in the allegations leveled through a media report against the former army chief, General V K Singh that he paid money in 2010 to topple the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Since startling revelations have come to the fore it would be prudent that CBI carries out a probe in the matter. The matter can also be probed through judicial means and this option too needs to be explored by the people at helm. The first thing that needs to be done is that FIR should be registered against the persons named in the case. Once this is done then law will take its own course and follow up action can be taken against the accused," said AIP President.
Engineer Rashid said that army should issue a white paper containing details about the politicians who have been paid money in Jammu and Kashmir to carry out their 'designs' in the desired manner. He alleged that politics has been highly criminalized, communalized and commercialized in the state with politicians stooping very low.
"The Congress party has been quite vocal while demanding action against the former army chief. However, on the other side the party has demanded no action against Ghulam Hassan Mir who has been nominated by the party to the state cabinet. This speaks of dual policy of the Congress party and it has to be condemned by one and all," said AIP President.
Engineer Rashid alleged that an army colonel and Superintendent of Police (SP) in his constituency paid money to some 'renegades' and presented them as sympathizers of separatists. He said these 'paid agents' carried out protest demonstration against him adding that the plot was orchestrated in order to defame him before the masses.
"In his revelations General VK Singh has said that army carried out activities that were supposed to be discharged by the civilian government. If this is true then I wonder what the civilian government is doing in Jammu and Kashmir. The state government should come out clean on this issue and army too needs to explain its position on the allegations leveled by its former army chief," said AIP President.
