NC responsible for erosion of special status: PC | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 3: J&K Peoples Conference (JKPC) which is contesting one Lok Sabha seat from Kashmir Valley has accused the National Conference and its founder leader Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah of all follies which led to the erosion of special status grated to the State. Addressing an election meetings in support of Party candidate from Baramulla, Kupwara Lok Sabha Constituency, Salam-ud-Din Bijhad, PC chairman, Sajjad Gani Lone blamed Sheikh Abdullah for exploiting the sentiments of the people unnecessarily on the issue as erosion of special constitutional position to the State was due to his own follies. Lone said that J&K enjoys internal autonomy under Article 7 of J&K Constitution but the same was never implemented on ground. He said late NC leader had himself admitted that he committed mistakes during a public meeting at Durgah Hazratbal as he had fully realized this later. The people of the Kashmir are reaping what has been sown by him and his party at present, Lone added and cautioned the people against the NC and its leaders. Alleging that the autonomy slogan of NC and the resolution adopted by the party during 1999 in State Assembly was nothing but a political gimmick to blackmail New Delhi and checkmate the Hizbul Mujahideen who were at that time coming closer to Delhi Government for a dialogue. ``To give a setback to Centre -Hurriyat talks NC adopted the autonomy resolution which was later turned down by Vajpayee Government'', he added. Lone said if NC leadership been so sincere towards autonomy why did not Omar Abdullah who was Union Minister in Vajpayee Government resigned then and there. This indicates that the Party and its leadership was never sincere towards autonomy or special position to State, he added. Making a scathing attack on NC and its leaders Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, Lone said that their opposition to BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narindera Modi carries no weight as the Party did not came out of NDA Government during Gujarat riots when other secular parties parted ways with it. The public meetings besides the Party candidate Bijhad who is a Gujjar leader was also addressed by JKPC leaders Farooq Ahmed Farooqi, Mir Ghulam Rasool and others. In another meeting at Kharbagh in Wakura block of Ganderbal district the Peoples Conference asked the people not to fall in trap of NC which has exploited the sentiments of innocent Kashmiris for over 65 years just remain in power. Addressing meeting Mir Ghulam Rasoll said that people in Kharbagh continue to face problems like water scarcity and power crisis and Government was not paying any attention to the same. The area has been totally ignored by successive governments. The meeting also rechristened Kharbagh as Anar Bagh as was earlier proposed by then Prime Minister Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed. The PC also demanded development of the local lake between Wakura and Kharbagh and make it a picnic spot for attraction of tourists from different parts of State and country to boost the economy of the area. The PC leaders pledged to work for brining the State out of present mess by restoring its age old composite culture by bridging the inter community bonds. |
