Lawless Doda, Kishtwar; 7 police vehicles running without fitness certificates

KISHTWAR, May 9: In an embarrassment for the government which is fighting hard to prevent accidents in hilly districts of Kishtwar and Doda district, seven police vehicles are among several government and private vehicles which runs without fitness on roads in Kishtwar District & other parts of the state.
As per the details available with Early Times, astonishing facts came to the fore after a notice issued by Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar intimating the defaulters to go through fitness process of their vehicles. As per ARTO Kishtwar Notice issued vide order No: ARTO/KTR/2014-15/83-96, 86 vehicles including seven vehicles of police department registered on the name of Superintendent of Police Kishtwar are plying on various routes without fitness.
Their fitness certificates expired over a year ago on May 5, 2013. Among these seven police vehicles, two are buses; three are heavy goods vehicles, one water tanker and one passenger and goods vehicle. After Police, PHE department, Municipal Committee Kishtwar and CISF are the major violators of law with PHE & MC Kishtwar three each and seven vehicles of CISF.
All these vehicles include buses, passenger vehicles and light & heavy goods vehicle. The notice issued by ARTO Kishtwar intimating the violators to get the fitness of their vehicle done immediately falling which strict action will be initiated against the violators in accordance to the law.
When contacted ARTO Kishtwar said that fitness of the vehicle is an important procedure as far as prevention of accidents is concerned and added that as per law all those vehicles running without valid fitness certificates are liable to be ground under law till the proper clearance from the department. He said that department has launched a massive drive against traffic violators.
It is pertinent to mention here that over 500 people lost their lives while hundreds of people were injured in accident at Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts in last couple of years creating ripples within the government who took various initiatives to prevent the accidents in the areas by erecting crash barriers, parapets, beside launched various special awareness programs among the drivers and masses to prevent the rate of accidents.
