Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 9: Supreme Court today reportedly granted bail to former SSP of Jammu Manohar Singh in the Amandeep Singh murder case in which the senior Police officer was accused of exchanging the weapon of offence in custody. He is coming out from Kot Bhalwal Jail Jammu after 5 years of continuous detention.
Though the ET has no access of the order copy, but if his legal experts are to be believed, the Supreme Court gave him respite in the shape of his bail on conditional basis.
Meanwhile, Central Jail Kotbhalwal authorities, where Manohar was lodged as under trial prisoner, when contacted said that they had not received such order as yet in this connection.
Pertinently, a special investigation team (SIT) arrested three police officials including former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manohar Singh for allegedly tampering with a murder weapon of a political leader's son in Jammu.
Amandeep Singh was shot dead at his home in Shastri Nagar locality here on Aug 29, 2009 by Jatinder Singh alias Raja, son of an influential businessman. Amandeep's mother Deepinder Kaur was an eyewitness to the murder of her son.
Earlier, the officers were placed under suspension for their role in changing the murder weapon of Amandeep Singh, son of People’s Democratic Party (PODP) leader Deepinder Kaur.
The other two officers who have been arrested along with the former SSP Jammu are Station House Officer of Gandhi Nagar police station Inspector Sultan Mirza and Sub Inspector Satnam Singh.
The SIT had also arrested Deputy Director of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Sarwar Hussain Bukhari for allegedly assisting in the conspiracy of the change of the weapon.
It was alleged that the police and FSL had changed the weapon and when this matter was brought to the notice of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, he immediately ordered the suspension of the officers and a probe by a special investigation team.
