SRINAGAR, May 9: As National Conference-Congress alliance Parliamentary candidate, Sharif-ud-din Shariq today ascribed deep rooted differences between Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Shafi Uri a major cause of cross voting, state Congress vice president said that blame game is not good as Congress leadership fulfilled their promise to support NC candidate across North Kashmir.
Terming the allegations baseless, state Congress vice president, G.N Monga said that Shariq and all other NC leaders are accusing Congress leadership without knowing facts as according to him Congress leadership tried their best to gain maximum public support for alliance candidate "Blame game is not good, our President Soz Sahab and me accompanied Shariq Sahab in almost all the constituencies of North Kashmir to gain maximum public support for him, unfortunately these leaders are accusing Congress leadership without knowing facts," said Monga.
Talking to Early Times Monga also said that he does not know what is between Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Shafi Uri and why voters did not vote for Sharif-ud-Din Shariq in Uri Constituency but as per his personal assessment in all other places which include Baramulla, Kupwara, Handwara, Langate, people supporting Congress voted for Shariq in good numbers.
"Taj Mohi-ud-Din has defeated Shafi-Uri many a times and obviously there must be rivalry between the two, yet I think only Taj Sahab can comment on this issue and explain in detail why people did not vote for Shariq Sahab ," he said.
He also said that he does not know what happened in Tangmarg area of Ghulam Hassan Mir and added that 'whatever Congress leadership could do for Sharif across North Kashmir it did with utmost honesty.'
Pertinently reaction of G.N Monga came after NC- Congress alliance candidate for North Kashmir Parliamentary seat, Sharif-ud-Din Shariq reportedly admitted that deep rooted differences between National Conference and Congress party over the years divided the voters and there was cross voting in the recently concluded elections. Talking to a local news agency, Shariq has said that 'political rivalry between Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Shafi Uri was the biggest factor for cross voting in Uri area.
Shariq has alleged that there was an element of trust deficit in Uri between alliance partners as according to him "we tried our best to sort out the difference and for this purpose we convened joint meetings and showed a united face on every platform but, still differences remained there,"
Shariq has also alleged that on ground level, alliance between NC and Congress was not so robust and visible as both the party leaders had expected and added that it was the political rivalry between Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Shafi Uri that votes were divided and workers from both the parties indulged in cross voting in the area. Pertinently Uri area is considered as massive vote bank of North Kashmir comprising around 67,000 votes and always a deciding area for any candidate contesting from North Kashmir.
