Rs 48 Cr earmarked for Samba, Shopian unspent, later diverted | Two districts deprived from NABARD benefits | | Arun Singh
Jammu, June 30: Blame it on political vendetta or discriminatory polices persued by coalition government, Rs 48 crore allocated to two districts of the state in last two years under National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) schemes were not spent on development related works and later diverted to other districts. Sources told Early Times the funds allocated to two districts including Samba in Jammu province and Shopian in Kashmir Province of the state under NABARD which is centrally sponsored schemes were not utilized keeping them away from benefits. "The amount of Rs 12 crore which is allocated to each district in District Development Meeting every year for the construction of roads and bridges in the areas but the same amount to the tune of Rs 48 crore were not utilized rather diverted to other districts under political influence in last two years," They further said that due to diversion of funds, these districts experienced huge loss in terms of development as many projects of roads, bridges and other allied works could not be executed pushing them to backwardness and ultimately people of the respective areas are bearing the brunt of administrative apathy. Sources maintained that state government is already lagging far behind in executing central sponsored schemes and showed dismal picture in past several years which ultimately impacted curtailment of the funds allocation from center government. "Despite repeated reprimand from center government for its poor performance in executing central sponsored schemes but till date government has not mended its ways in this regard," they said. |
