In violation of Minimum Wages Act, Govt to engage 16000 youth under ReK

Jammu, June 30: A week after it realized its blunder and dissolved its new recruitment policy that had pushed the educated youth of the state into deprivation, government is likely to repeat its misdoing by engaging around 16000 unemployed educated youth under government's proposed Rehbar-e-Khurak (ReK) scheme but they will be paid in violation of Minimum Wages Act.
Though the proposal for ReK scheme yet to be cleared by state cabinet, highly placed sources informed Early Times that to run affairs of 7000 proposed ration depots to streamline the public distribution with additional manpower, the government would engage 16000 unemployed educated youth.
"Each depot will have a salesman and a helper. The helper will be given Rs 3000 per months and salesman will be given Rs 5000" they said and added "The salary fixed for helpers is in violation of laborer laws which provide that any daily wager would be given Rupees 4500 per month/ Rs 150 per day" they said.
They added that even the Jammu and Kashmir Planning and Development Department has approved proposal on condition that the employees would not demand for regularization of their services. "Instead of learning lesson from recently revoked new recruitment policy, due to resentment among youths, now the state government is repeating their faulty policy by resorting to violation of minimum wage act", they added.
Admitting the facts and requesting not to be identified, a secretary level official, in department of CAPD, said "It is not right time to comment over the issue as it yet to be approved by state cabinet". Despite repeated calls and messages to Minster for Consumer Affair and Public Distribution (CAPD), Choudhary Ramzan he did not respond. The government has proposed 7000 ration depots at uncovered and far flung areas where people face problems especially during winter months in getting ration on regular basis as the Public Distribution System breaks down.
