Jammu, July 14: Amid tall claims clamoured time and again by state government about its commitment of upgrading health system at District hospitals of the state, health care at District Hospital Rajouri is on crutches as a costly radio diagnostic machine is biting dust just because of absence of the adequate medical staff i.e. qualified Radiologist. According to sources, about 10 different posts are vacant in the District Hospital (DH) Rajouri, and majority of them are functioning with inadequate staff, be it medical faculty or the paramedical staff. Sources said 250 bedded District Hospital Rajouri which caters to a population of over six lakh people, has two posts of physicians vacant for a pretty long time. "Specialist physicians are the important,' sources said out of three posts of Physicians two are vacant in DH Rajouri and only one is functioning. Likewise, five posts of Medical Officers are lying vacant in the hospital. Besides, two posts of Anesthetics and lone post of Radiologist is lying vacant in the hospital. "Owing to the vacant post of Radiologist CT Scan machine installed in the District Hospital Rajouri is lying defunct for past around five months", sources said. They added New District Hospital, Rajouri has a rush of patients even from Poonch district also and lack of doctors often results into public outcry and on an average 15 Medico Legal Cases (MLCs) cases are being referred to Sarwal Hospital from both Rahouri- Poonch District Hospitals owing to vacant posts of specialists. Sources said the existing District Hospitals in twin border districts have totally become handicapped as they face the shortage of doctors in almost all branches. "The shortage of doctors' effect the treatment of patients in the hospitals especially during the emergencies resulting into public resentment and sometimes it even takes a shape of agitation, sources added. Admitting that there is shortage of doctors in the District Hospitals, the Minister of Health and Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din told Early Times that there is acute shortage of doctors. "I am on the job and will try my best to fill the various vacant posts so that health care shall be put on back to track. |
