Rajouri hospital facing acute shortage of doctors, para-medical staff | | | Early Times Report
RAJOURI, July 14: A huge modern structure of district hospital at Rajouri from outside can easily compel anybody to utter few words of appreciation for the Health authorities of J&K government. But all the appreciations fell flat when a visitor came to know that the hospital is facing acute shortage of Medical Officers (junior or senior), Para-medical staff, medicines, glucose and many other things required for the benefits of the patients. Out of 53 sanctioned posts of Medical Officers and senior consultants 26 posts were lying vacant as on July 13. Instead providing treatment to the patients the hospital its self needs urgent Medical Help and authorities , who claim everything is well at district hospital, including Director Health services and concerned Minister must come out of deep slumber and- if they really need appreciation- must provide the required doctors, paramedical staff, medicines and other necessary items at this hospital. For the last many months people of Rajouri district have been calling district hospital as 'referral hospital' as even simple cases of surgery, poison cases, accident cases (even of minor natures), rape cases were referred to government medical college (GMC) hospital for treatment. Many a times the authorities at GMC hospital have objected to this practice by the authorities of the Rajouri hospital authorities and had taken up the matter with the Directorate of Health services, but nothing has been done till today and the practice is still on. Recently a minor rape victim was referred to district hospital from sub district hospital at Nowshera and the girl could have been treated at district hospital as three gynaecologist consultants were available at this hospital. But the girl without any treatment was referred to SMGS hospital and when the matter came to the notice of Director Health Services he attached both the gynaecologist at his directorate from Nowshera and Rajouri. Magisterial probe was also conducted in this matter and after going through the probe report , Hemant Kumar Sharma , IAS deputy commissioner Rajouri has recommended action against Dr Kapahi , gynaecologist at district hospital. The district hospital has been providing necessary medical aid to more than 5 lakh people of Rajouri and Poonch districts and the post of Radiologist lying vacant since its creation about 4 years back when the CT SCAN unit was established. CT SCAN unit at district hospital is headless since its inception and some X-ray technicians operating this unit. Blood bank always remains out of stock in the absence of proper management and is presently headless for the last many months. Hospital authorities mostly remain depend on various army units in case of any emergency of blood Patients have been asked to bring even needles and glucose from the open markets. According to doctors the hospital is getting very less quota of required medicines/glucose etc. Interference by some locals, who have been running medical shops in the vicinity of district hospital, in the functioning of the hospital has badly affected the work culture in the hospital and that is one of the major reasons that this hospital has been known as 'Referral Hospital". |
