Gen Suhag likely to follow plan of Gen Bikram Singh | Upgrading security grid along LoC | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 14: As far as the plan for upgrading the security grid on the LoC and the IB in Jammu and Kashmir for foiling infiltration of militants is concerned there is going to be no change in the plan after the new Army Chief, Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag takes over from Gen Bikram Singh on August 1. Official sources said that for Gen Suhag the blueprint for foiling ingress bids by militants has already been in operation for the last several years. Sources said that Gen Suhag will continue to ensure that the already established plan was enforced in letter and spirit. Sources said that it was as a result of various steps for upgrading the security grid that the level of ingress of militants had touched zero during the last three months. During these months the Indian troops foiled as many as 35 ingress bids in which more than 10 infiltrators were killed.Reports said that Gen Suhag is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir and interact with troops on the border during the last week of August. During his visit he is likely to suggest to the corps commanders to adopt people friendly policies while launching counter insurgency operations. Sources said that there was need for further toning up security bandobast on the LoC and the IB because agencies across the border, which are treated as handlers of militants, have brought more groups of militants on the launch pads across the LoC and the IB for pushing them into Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that since the Assembly election date was drawing near these handlers were trying to help these militants in crossing into Jammu and Kashmir for enforcing separtists' call for poll boycott which they have given to people. Once some groups were able to cross into Jammu and Kashmir they may try to create added scare by resorting to violence during the pre-poll campaign nd on the days of polling. Hence the state may seek additional paramilitary forces from the Union Home Ministry two to three months before the pre-poll campaign started. |
