Post clashes: demonstration held in Mattan, traffic disrupted | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, July 14: A day after the outbreak of a clash between two minority communities in Mattan area of South Kashmir, members of one minority community this morning staged protest demonstration on Mattan-Pahalgam road alleging harassment from other community. Reports said that minorty community members blocked the vehicular traffic on the road for about 3 hours and alleged harassment from another minority community during the intervening night. "During the night a group of persons belonging to other community attacked ours flats and hurled stones," said M K Yogi, adding they feel insecure. "Yesterday they violated the Supreme Court directions by raising construction on the disputed land and besides it hurled abuses and stones on us. They even not took our consent," he said, adding they can celebrate only three festivals on the disputed land as per the Supreme Court directions. He alleged that the district administration supported another minority community and played a biased role in the matter. Protesters were pacified by senior police officials who assured them swift action. Meanwhile, the other minority community denied the allegations and demanded impartial probe. "Neither we hurled stones nor did we violate Supreme Court directions." Giani Rajinder Singh spokesman Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee told Early Times. |
