Locals demand action against stone crushers near residential area

Kathua, July 18: Residents of a Panchayat Gandyal have urged the state government to take action against stone crushers that are operating along the bank of Ravi River and are in close vicinity of the residential area causing dust and sound pollution. While addressing a media conference Ashok Kumar and many others from Gandyal panchyat said that the many people in the village are suffering from diseases like Asthma, blindness, skin allergy and many others due to the pollution created by the stone crushers. They also citied the example of an aged namely Dhana Ram and his wife are suffering of serious ailments and have lost their eyesight. Member Panchayat, Master Shankara alleged that illegal stone crushers are being run due a nexus with some moles in administration and many of them are secretively owned by Punjab based traders. They also alleged that due to dust pollution the production of crops has also been affected. Locals demanded crushers along the bank of river and Panchayat Gandyal should be locked as soon as possible.
